A checklist for buyers reviewing acoustic enclosure test reports, before-and-after results, supplier evidence, or acceptance documents.

A useful acoustic enclosure test report should show what was measured, where it was measured, the operating condition, background noise, active openings, test method, and result definition.

Identify the measured condition

The report should show whether the test measured the bare source, enclosed source, insertion loss, boundary noise, operator point, or another receiver position.

  • Look for source model, load, speed, duty, and operating schedule.
  • Check whether doors, louvers, silencers, exhaust, and penetrations were in normal operating condition.
  • Confirm whether background noise was low enough for the result to be meaningful.

Receiver point and layout

A result without receiver location is hard to use. Reports should include distance, microphone position, site layout, nearby reflecting surfaces, and whether the value is inside or outside the enclosure.

Method and instrument record

For formal acceptance, request the test method, instrument type or calibration record, date, weather or site condition if relevant, and responsible party.

Before-and-after evidence

Before-and-after values are useful when the source condition and receiver point match. If conditions changed, the report should explain the change rather than presenting a simple reduction number.

Selection Points

Use this checklist before accepting a supplier performance claim or project case value.
Ask for the method and measurement location when a dB value is important to procurement.
